How We Start The Day Matters

I was hesitant to write about this today, as we hear about this term “morning routine” so much.

But…. the proof is in the pudding for me.

When I start the day scrolling, I find myself reaching for my phone for the rest of the day.

I feel distracted, irritable and not present.

Have you noticed this yourself?

On the other hand, when I start the day with stillness and intention, my day goes completely differently.

How we experience the first 5 - 30 minutes of the day has a huge impact on how we feel for the rest of the day.

If you begin the day checking into everyone else's agendas (email, news, social media etc.)

….you will stay checked into the world around you, and you'll inevitably feel disconnected from yourself.

Rather than allowing your day (and the people you interact with) to determine how you're going to feel, create a clear intention and lead with that.

Ahead of time…

1. Make a decision about how you're going to feel today.

2, Make a decision about the kind of thoughts you're going to be thinking today.

3. Make a decision about the kind of parent, friend, colleague or boss you're going to be today.

Here are some ideas:

This doesn't have to be time consuming. It could just be 5 minutes.

Write out an affirmation or sentence that connects you with how you want to feel “Today I'm choosing to feel….”. Pause. Breathe that in.

Listen to the I AM Audio (this free audio makes this automatic and easy)

5 minutes of deep breathing before your feet touch the ground (search Youtube for something guided. Love this one.)

Slow movement. Stretching. Meditation. Prayer.

Try this EFT / Tapping video.

Starting your day with intention is a really powerful place to live from & will transform how you experience the harder stuff.

If you're up for it, put your phone to one side for the first 15 - 30 minutes of your day

…and watch what happens :)
