Decompressing At The End of The Day

Decompressing at the end of the day, helps us live and work in a lighter way.

It's unrealistic to assume that we can go from "all on" to completely rested as soon as we walk in the door.

We actually need to give ourselves time to create that mental distinction between work and home life.

Here are some of my favourite ways to decompress after a day:

Use your commute intentionally:

- Get into your car and breathe. Count backwards from 20.

- Play soft music, without lyrics - I love the "Peaceful Meditation" playlist on Spotify.

- Diffuse essential oils in your car (Lavender or Cedarwood are great)

If you work from home, create a routine for yourself:

- Go for a short walk around the block

- Close your laptop and put it away so you don't see it

- Get changed. Have a shower.

- Take 20 deep breaths before you leave your working space and move into home life.

Other things I love:

- Lying on my back with my legs up the wall  (it's a yoga pose).

- Use the practice of "Release writing" and journaling the day out to close the open mental loops.
