The Fear of Being Judged For Doing New Things

Recently, I held a Virtual Retreat for a collection of my private clients.

One of the comments that came up was feeling blocked about stepping forward with a new business idea and the fear of being judged by others for doing this.

My response to this question was - “You’re not responsible for other people's triggers".

Firstly, can I say this is a really common fear when it comes to moving forward with any new ideas.

We are so conditioned to be responsible for how other people feel (especially as women). When we take this too seriously it will mean we care too deeply about what other people will think or say about our choices.

This keeps us playing small and staying in our comfort zone or safe zone.

We’ve got to be able to process the discomfort of other people’s judgement (whether that’s perceived or real).

It's really important to remember it isn’t your job to soothe the reactions of others. If someone takes objection to what you’re doing, it’s actually not got much to do with you.

What is a *much* better use of your energy is to work on creating a safe harbour to land within yourself as you do new things.

What this means is -  no matter what you’re worried others might be thinking about you (and actually it’s not as much as the mind thinks)…you always belong to yourself.

Other people's opinions can come and go. What's more important is to continue to commit to belong to yourself.

It's very easy to be on our own team when people are praising and validating us. This feels harder to do when we feel like people are judging us.

Committing to belonging to yourself is what makes it sooo much easier to step into the new things - whether that be a new pathway, a business or progressing new ideas in your life.
