How To Use Affirmations To Create Your Dream Life
Positive affirmations are a powerful tool in my dream life toolbox and when used correctly, are the key element in creating the life you desire.
Although they appear to be very simple, affirmations are a powerful means of transformation.
What are affirmations?
Daily affirmations are simple positive statements declaring specific goals in their completed states. Although they sound rather basic at that level, these empowering mantras have profound effects on the conscious and unconscious mind and of course, on the actions you take in the real world to achieve the life you desire.
Why use affirmations?
Every day we are surrounded by negative messages from our external environment – media, well meaning friends, family that impose limitations on us (often very subconsciously) about what’s possible.
These limiting thoughts (such as “I’m not good enough, experienced enough, loveable enough.” and many more like them, are repeated throughout your childhood and into adulthood and become how you define yourself.
When then internalise these negative messages as “truth”, they hold us back from our goals, hopes, dreams and from stepping into our true potential.
It’s not a surprise when your physical reality (your experience) matches these definitions. What we put out, we always get back. Our external world is always a reflection of our internal world.
Willpower isn’t enough to create the change we seek. When we have disempowering self talk and when we’re running limiting beliefs such as “it’s not possible. I don’t deserve it. That’s just the way it is.” This negativity will cancel out any action or effort you make, every time.
You need to let go of any and all negative thoughts and images and instead fill your mind with new thoughts that are positive and will support you in creating all the change you desire.
Affirmations replace old limiting ideas, pessimistic beliefs, and negative self-talk with positive statements that affirm who you want to be and what you want to experience.
Remember: if you want a different result, you’re going to have to do something different. Positive change always starts with a positive mindset.
How do affirmations work?
When an affirmation is repeated over and over again, it acts directly on our emotions and our feelings. Then, it penetrates to the very depths of our subconscious minds.
It helps eliminate negative and limiting beliefs and transforms your comfort zone from a limited one keeping you trapped in mediocrity to a more expanded one where anything is possible. When you believe something is possible, you are far more likely to proceed with confidence and certainty, not allow obstacles to set you back and look for (and find) creative solutions to achieve the outcome you desire.
What you think and talk about the most, as well as the kind of beliefs you hold is exactly what you attract into your life. Positive thinking attracts positive outcomes and experiences, while negativity attracts more of this.
There are already many resources available and means to achieving your goals in your physical environment right now, but when we affirm something isn’t possible or allow negative thinking to take over, we completely shut ourselves off from what’s available already to make it happen. We simply don’t see the means to creating the change we desire.
Conversely, when we affirm the outcome we desire, over and over again, we are essentially training our minds to believe that it’s possible, when you open yourself up to what’s possible, then your mind gets to work to find creative solutions and the means to achieving your dreams goals and desires.
How to use affirmations:
Start with I AM…..
Wayne Dyer talks about the words “I am” as being the most powerful words we can use to describe ourselves Wayne talks about the words that we use following “I AM” as being some of the most powerful words we can use, they are literally creating our future. What we put out, we always get back. Our external world is always a reflection of our internal world.
“I am worthy and deserving of the life I desire and I am expecting only good things before me.”
Use present tense
- Take the outcome you desire and state it as already being true.
“I am so happy and grateful to be earning $100,000 a year doing work that completely inspires me.”
- The more emotion you can put behind an affirmation, the stronger and more real it wil feel to you. You will know that you have an affirmation infused with emotional energy when you feel pumped up to take action.
“I am safe, loved and capable of incredible things. Every single day I wake up knowing and believing this to be true and my actions reflect this total certainty.”
- Make sure your affirmations are affirming the outcome you want (not what you don’t want)
CHANGE THIS AFFIRMATION FROM:
“I am not afraid of making this presentation to the leadership team”
“I am at ease and feel so confident presenting to the leadership team. The right words are flowing out of mouth and I’m so proud of my performance.”
Review your affirmations one to three times a day. I recommend saying them first thing in the morning and before you go to bed and anytime during the day when you feel negativity creeping in.
An extra tip is to record your affirmations on your phone and play them while you’re driving, exercising or doing housework.
The more you infuse every part of your day with affirmations, the more they become an automatic part of your thinking, you believe with certainty that your goals are happening, you take the action required to get them and the Universe meets you more than half way when you go forward with this kind of certainty.
I truly believe that when affirmations are used daily, it will help you create rapid and positive change in virtually any area of your life.
So start using it today to begin attracting all the love, appreciation, success, and abundance you desire and deserve in your life!
